TGIF! This week has flown by, mostly due to the drama over my swollen foot. I haven’t run much this week, but have been taking advantage of the elliptical and doing more yoga. I know a lot of people love, love, LOVE elliptical machines, but I just am not a huge fan. Some elliptical machines I have tried at the gym are just terrible – the motion is so forced and unnatural for me. But the elliptical we bought for our home gym had a very natural stride, and it is adjustable (from 18 to 23 inches). So to take some impact off my foot this week I have been doing 10 minutes on the elliptical (about all the time I can tolerate on it).

This morning I hit the elliptical pretty hard for 10 minutes – did 1.6 miles. Then I hopped on the treadmill and ran (varied between 6.8 and 7.8 mph) for another mile and a half.  After I was nice and warmed up (aka sweaty) from my 22 minutes of cardio I went upstairs to do some yoga – 20 minute Yoga with weights. Not sure how I feel about this program – I would like it to get into the poses faster and do a couple more flows, yet if you have never done yoga with weights you need lots of instruction (possibly more than is provided) and to take it slowly. I found myself wishing I had chosen a different program for today, but it was still a really nice wrap up to the workout.

Went to a wine dinner last night – great wine and food, but had a bit too much wine (had an open bottle at home that I finished when we got home) and ate some pizza before practically passing out. Work up feeling blah and fat, ugh. Not hung-over, but blah. Oh well, jumped on the elliptical for 10 minutes (1.5 miles – yay) and then did 20 minute yogaPower Vinyasa Flow #1. I was all toasty from the elliptical work, so that was great.

Scale said 139.0 this morning, which is bad since I was likely dehydrated from the wine. I have been drinking lots of water and fluids all day. Had some frozen baked oatmeal – love that stuff (pumped up with banana, pecans, milk and protein powder). Was still hungry after the big bowl of oatmeal (of course – I have been so hungry lately) so I had 1 small protein pancake with a little almond and apple butter, mmm.

Listened to a really great fitcast yesterday – Leigh Peele had some really good information about how our bodies react after dieting down – which can lead to binge eating (which I had 3 bouts of last week. I know I didn’t really write about it here, I wanted to, but wasn’t quite ready, so I guess this is what I will say about it). The binge question starts right around the 45 minute mark – I saved this podcast and will be listening to it again I know.

All this poor eating and excessive drinking is taking a toll on my skin – I have a couple breakouts on my chin right now! Maybe I can squeeze in a facial tonight.

Just took the dog for short walk – its 20 degrees out but sunny. She loved now. Now having one of my favorite snacks: plain Greek yogurt mixed with black berries, walnuts, cinnamon and chia seeds. Sweetened the yogurt with some apple butter. I had been sweetening it with some raspberry preserves my aunt gave me – yesterday I went to mix them in and realized they preserves were moldy! I had already begun mixing with the yogurt, so that carton was trashed, fortunately had some protein pancakes to eat instead. Now I wonder how long the raspberries had been bad – I have been feeling icky in the afternoons after I had my yogurt snack many times in the past few weeks, ugh.

I need to take it easy for a few days – the foot that got stung by the sting ray has an infection. I think running has made it worse, so I am going to stick to lifting and yoga for the next few days (the weather turned super cold again anyway, lol).

This morning I was moving in slow motion, but still wanted to do some sort of workout before heading in to work, so I did the 20 minute Detox Yoga from YogaDownloads.com. Not sure exactly why I chose this one today but it was just what I needed. It is surprisingly challenging yet gentle, if that makes any sense. Or maybe it was just a challenge for me today.

So far today is not going so well – my foot is swollen and hurting from the sting ray bite and my phone is not working. I have restarted it several times, but it just says “No service”. Argh, such a Monday. At least I am not hung-over – I had quite a few vodka sodas last night; I fell asleep early.

Weight was 136.6 this morning, much better. Ran again this morning – it was cold – only 12 degrees, but that made me run faster – I did the 3.6 mile loop the fastest I think I ever have: just over 33 minutes. Had a veggie/egg white scramble with one yolk for breakfast, so good. I really do love egg whites. Was really hungry all morning, but only snacked on my almonds and dried cherries (8 of each). Did half of an EC stack (100mg caffeine and half a Bronk-Aid) and that helped me get through the hunger.

Lunchtime workout was a quick full-body strength routine, had to stop by the dry cleaners so that took up a bit of my time. Got my heart rate up and felt good! My well-deserved lunch was some turkey taco salad I had in freezer – brought greens and a few chips from home. Had an orange as well – bought a 5lb bag since oranges are in season and cheap.

I think its actually warm enough to take the dog for a quick walk!

Back from vacation, still in a bit of “vacation haze”. We had a really nice time, although the weather was not as nice as I would hope for when vacationing at a beach destination. We had some sun each day, but it was also cloudy and rained a little almost every day. We managed to keep busy, did lots of walking, eating and shopping.

The eating and drinking showed up on my scale this morning – a whopping 138.6 lbs! I was surprised, but it could be worse. I was expected a gain, and I know I can knock it down fairly easy and fast if I try, so I am not too discouraged. And I was on vacation after it – it was worth it (I love guacamole and chips so, so much, lol).

I did get up and have a good run with the dog this morning – 2.7 miles in 26 minutes. Temperature was about 16 degrees – brrr! Had baked oatmeal for breakfast – some leftovers I had frozen, so yummy.

On a non-fitness note, here is some great info on creating a “luckier attitude” that I came across today while trying to catch up on my Google reader:

Research revealed that lucky people generate good fortune via four basic principles.

  1. Be skilled at creating and noticing chance opportunities
  2. Make lucky decisions by listening to their intuition
  3. Create self-fulfilling prophesies via positive expectations
  4. Adopt a resilient attitude that transforms bad luck into good

Weight this morning – 130lbs! That was my goal weight before Cancun – I am so happy. Would still like a flatter stomach and smaller tush, but I am happy with my results – I have worked hard for it!

Crazy busy day! Getting the house and the dog cleaned today, lol. So,just the other night I was telling hubby how I don’t really like evaluating my progress solely on the scale, and this morning proved why: I weighed myself this morning like I always do – scale said 130.6 – yay! But that really seemed too low. So I went upstairs, drank a large glass of water, then weighed myself again: 131.6 – that seemed better. But it just blew me away how much drinking water could cause the scale to vary, hmm…

Workouts: Last night was so not in the mood to work out – didn’t get home from meeting until 9:45pm. But hubby was working out, so jumped on treadmill next to him and before I knew it I had run 3.5 miles – and at a fairly good pace!

I then proceeded to stay up too late reading a magazine, but did manage to pull myself out of bed around 7:30. After then usual routine of feeding the animals, weighing myself and streching I worked out – 10 min on the elliptical followed by 25 on treadmill – most of it was running!

Food: I surprised myself last night – I made seared Ahi tuna! I love Ahi tuna, and my grocery store had a great deal on it. I had googled recipes last week for seared Ahi tune, they all seemed rather complex. But we needed something quick for dinner, so I finally got some, along with some sesame seeds, wasabi and wasabi-ginger salad dressing.

All I did was season the tuna with salt and pepper, then sprinkle it generously with black and white sesame seeds. Heated some safflower oil in a pan over medium high heat, put tuna in – about 2-3 minutes on 1 side, flip then 2 min more. Let it cool a bit, sliced it up and served with salad. So, so good!

Finally got to run outside again! This morning the temperature was 22 degrees – warm enough to run! The air was a bit damp, which made it feel more chilly. I mostly ran on the streets because the sidewalks are all packed snow and ice. Wore my Yak Trax – worked good today. And I made good time 3.5 miles in 33 minutes, I think that is a record for me. And Nick was so happy to run outside with me.

11:30am – Another late night working – it is starting to affect my sleep schdele. Managed to get up at 8:30 this morning, got in a pretty good workout: 3.5 miles on elliptical and treadmill. Yummy egg-white scramble for breakfast, got to work at almost 11, but hey, I was up until 1am working.

2:23pm – Did a new 20-minute yoga workout at lunch – Yoga with Weights. I have done yoga scuplt in the past, so the concept of yoga + weights was not new to me. The 20 minute session goes by rather quick. It is a nice basic flow, I really enjoyed it. This is another of yogadownload.com’s workouts that I may buy a longer version of.

I was happy to find the gym back to normal attendance - lunch time usually draws 6-8 people. During the “January Resolution Rush” there would be a dozen or more people crowding my gym, lol. After the yoga I was putting my weights away in the weight room – decided to do chin-ups – got 3 good ones in! Thought I would try a 4th, but just couldn’t do it. Still, pretty proud of myself.
