Went to the gym today over the lunch hour – was planning on doing some yoga. As I stepped outside the sun felt so warm and nice I decided I would do yoga outside. So I went into the gym, which was freezing of course, changed, then walked around behind the building where there is an empty patio area (the building that my gym is in is mostly empty) laid down my mat and did 30 minute Yoga for Runners. I started out in the sun, but moved to the shade about half-way through – it was about 85 degrees after all. I think I would do yoga again outside – either there or by my office, although I might opt to wear shades

Rainy day, no run today. Thought the rain might hold off for long enough that I could squeeze in a short run, but it was raining when I finally got up at 7:45am. Weight this am: 137.4lbs. This morning’s yoga: Hip Opening Flow 20 min. Great class, but I would recommend warming up with a sun salutation or 2 since she gets right into the hip work. Breakfast was egg-white scramble with turkey, spinach (sautéed up a big pile of spinach that was in the fridge for over a week, added half to breakfast, half with go with my zucchini lasagna for lunch), mushroom and red pepper. Hoping to go to Core Power Yoga today for noon class.

I wanted to open a bottle of wine last night to help soothe my tummy, but Hubby gently encouraged me not to. I am glad I didn’t – I don’t think it would have truly helped; in fact it might have made things worse. But, I did indulge a bit for dinner: small portion of zucchini lasagna, thick Greek yogurt with berries and walnuts (plus cinnamon, chia seeds and dried coconut – my new fav way to make yogurt), and then while watching Glee and Next Food Network Star I had 2 (yes, two!) plates of chips with cheddar and blue cheese – yum!

Stomach is feeling way better today (although it typically does feel OK in the mornings – mid day the pain and bloating starts up, ugh) actually feeling nice and thin – yay! Wearing size 6 jeans today – in the past few weeks these jeans have not made me happy, but feeling pretty good today. Time for a cup of green tea…

Today was one of those days when I really didn’t want to go workout over the noon hour, but just got in my car and did it – ended up feeling good and having a great workout. Love that post-workout glow, .

I am going to try to avoid dairy for a few days to see if it helps my digestion. I don’t know how I am going to do it, dairy is such a mainstay of my diet, and I love, love cheese. But if I feel better after avoiding it for a week or so I will probably try slowing adding some cheese or yogurt back in.

Woke up at about 6:20am and wondered if I had set my alarm – checked, I had not. So I set the alarm for 6:45am and tried to snooze a bit more, but got up at 6:30, amazed that I had woken that early without the aid of the alarm clock. Weighed in at 137.0lbs. Did morning routine, then yoga: Power Vinyasa #4 (did #3 on Saturday – instructor is Jackie, enjoyed it very much). I like #4, it is the one I did for the first time in Cancun on the roof of the hotel, so it brought me back there. And it had a neat Warrior flow where you switch directions, I like that.

I had a great run this morning! Did my “long winter loop” at my fastest pace so far: 3.76 miles in 30 minutes. 392 calories, average speed was 7.3 mph! I could not believe it, I just had lots of energy so I kept the pace up. I did go to bed at a decent time last night, and did some yoga before going out for the run. I always stretch a bit before running, but have wanted to do an actual yoga session before running; I just have never gotten up in time. This morning I did most of the 20 minute Yoga for Runners (good choice, huh?)

Had a good lunch workout – lifting. I was actually looking forward to it for a change! The weight room was rather crowded and too warm due to the sun streaming in through the windows so my motivation was flagging, but then I went into the Pilates room and banged out some lunges, mountain climbers, jacks, and side planks, along with ab work. Got back to work and had burrito I brought from home. It was very tasty, but then the hunger started.

This is how my afternoon went:

1:45 pm (about half hour after finishing lunch) I am so hungry, when is snack time?
2:00 pm Still hungry (make tea)
2:30 pm Is it 3 yet? (make more tea)
2:46 pm Attempt to take dog for walk, forgot leash, so just stretch a bit
3:00 pm woohoo snack time!
3:10 pm still hungry after eating snack, have half teaspoon almond butter
3:45 pm still hungry (make more tea)
4:00 pm screw it, still hungry, chomp down Lara bar
4:02 pm feel guilty for eating entire Lara bar
4:33 pm still kinda hungry, lol

I guess I will have to eat light tonight, but my neck is aching so I am already thinking about a glass of wine while I cook. On tonight’s “cooking agenda”: stir-fry chicken, turkey meatballs with spaghetti squash, and bottle kombucha (possible make more).

TGIF! This week has flown by, mostly due to the drama over my swollen foot. I haven’t run much this week, but have been taking advantage of the elliptical and doing more yoga. I know a lot of people love, love, LOVE elliptical machines, but I just am not a huge fan. Some elliptical machines I have tried at the gym are just terrible – the motion is so forced and unnatural for me. But the elliptical we bought for our home gym had a very natural stride, and it is adjustable (from 18 to 23 inches). So to take some impact off my foot this week I have been doing 10 minutes on the elliptical (about all the time I can tolerate on it).

This morning I hit the elliptical pretty hard for 10 minutes – did 1.6 miles. Then I hopped on the treadmill and ran (varied between 6.8 and 7.8 mph) for another mile and a half. After I was nice and warmed up (aka sweaty) from my 22 minutes of cardio I went upstairs to do some yoga – 20 minute Yoga with weights. Not sure how I feel about this program – I would like it to get into the poses faster and do a couple more flows, yet if you have never done yoga with weights you need lots of instruction (possibly more than is provided) and to take it slowly. I found myself wishing I had chosen a different program for today, but it was still a really nice wrap up to the workout.

This morning I was moving in slow motion, but still wanted to do some sort of workout before heading in to work, so I did the 20 minute Detox Yoga from YogaDownloads.com. Not sure exactly why I chose this one today but it was just what I needed. It is surprisingly challenging yet gentle, if that makes any sense. Or maybe it was just a challenge for me today.

10:30am – I had a breakthrough! I think I got through the plateau – weight this morning was 133.0. Hope I can keep it there and keep going down. I have a girlfriend coming into town this weekend, we a planning a little “girls night out” on Saturday night, will have to focus so that doesn’t derail me too much.

Was up late last night doing some work, but still got in a good workout last night, and this morning, just slept a bit later. All indoors – temperature outside is below zero, not including wind chill. Gotta love Minnesota winters!

Smoothie for breakfast again this morning, added the chia seeds. Didn’t taste any different, but I know they add a lot. Added a couple walnuts too (very little), it really hit the spot. But it is higher in sugar and calories than my usual egg white scramble, so I will probably go back to that tomorrow.

1:15pm – lunch – big salad, yum. Did a 20 minute yoga session over lunch break -Yoga for Weight Loss . Really enjoyed it, I am considering buying one of the longer versions (maybe when I have a promo code or there is a sale, lol). Dawnelle gets right into the flow, so next time I will warm a bit more with childs pose and rag doll.

Had to do youga at lunch – it helped. Did Hot Power Fusion #1, not really my style. But, maybe it was good for me to get outside my yoga-comfort-zone.

This afternoon I had the perfect snack – a left-over protein pancake with half a wdge of Laughing cow cheese and a tiny bit of home-made raspberry jam. I usually have my left-over protein pancakes with peanut butter and a bit of Mom’s homemade apple butter, but thought I would try something different today – glad it did – it was a bit like a tasty cheesecake treat!

I never though I would be one of those girls, but its so hot in the studio (I go to a heated Vinyasa flow practice) one day I just wore the sports bra. I love it. I don’t have fabulous abs, but having them exposed and constantly in sight has really helped me to focus on them and the uddiyana bandha. So wear those sports bras with confidence and enjoy a firmer midsection.
